Pol, a poor, gay teenager from the mountains, is abandoned by his American lover after finishing his tour of duty and is forced to move to Manila to support himself and his family. He enters the shadowy underworld of male strippers, prostitution, illegal drugs, sexual exploitation, and sexual slavery. His closest friend is a successful “macho dancer” and call boy, Noel, who takes Pol in as a roommate and acts as a patient mentor. Noel guides Pol into Mama Charlie’s, a male strip club tucked along the tourist row frequented by American, European, and Japanese visitors. Pol quickly finds a place within the community of sex workers and forms an instant rapport with Bambi, a young call girl who often parties on the street with Noel and his friends after work.

As their camaraderie deepens, Noel confesses that his move to Manila was driven by a plan to educate his younger sister, Pining, who has recently disappeared. He had left her in the care of his aunt, but fears she ran away and may have been kidnapped and sexually exploited. Pol promises Noel his full support in the search for Pining and a hope that she is still alive.

Desperation for money pushes Noel toward riskier assignments. He arranges jobs through Dennis, a fellow macho dancer with ties to a local crime lord and to a corrupt police officer nicknamed Kid. Noel begins to traffic drugs to his clients and even asks Pol to appear with him in a pornographic film. When they’re not on the job, Pol and Noel scour Manila’s strip clubs and brothels for signs of Pining, while Bambi quietly presses clients and other workers for information about new groups of women forced into sexual slavery.

Pol’s life takes a brutal turn when he is publicly beaten by Kid, a punishment meant for Dennis, and Noel vanishes. Pol is taken in and cared for by Bambi, and the two share a night that leaves Pol certain of his love for her. Yet Bambi deflects his confession, attributing it to the intoxication of sleeping with a woman for the first time, and Noel later voices his disappointment over their budding romance.

The search for Pining intensifies when Noel and Pol finally locate her inside a heavily guarded brothel controlled by Kid’s men. They approach in disguise as clients, and Pining reveals she came to Manila to escape an abusive aunt and find Noel. She recounts how she was lured with drugged food, kidnapped, raped, and kept there for years, forced to serve clients around the clock until she could be released after roughly three years. She begs them to leave quickly to avoid drawing attention.

Noel sinks into despair at the seeming impossibility of freeing Pining without risking his life, and his grief is compounded as Pol’s absence from the group becomes a source of strain. With Noel spiraling into drugs and drink alongside Dennis and other macho dancers, Pol returns to a scene of danger—friends incapacitated, some harming themselves with a razor, and a pistol visible in the chaos. Pol intervenes and helps Noel to bed.

With more money earned, Noel and Pol mount a renewed effort to reach the brothel and rescue Pining. They stage an improvised escape, but Kid pursues them through a heavy rainstorm. In the ensuing confrontation, Kid fatally shoots Noel, who dies in Pol’s arms. Grief-stricken yet determined, Pol carries Pining to the safety of Bambi’s apartment, where she can lie hidden until a plan to leave the city can be arranged. In the wake of the tragedy, Pol resolves to return to the mountains, and he asks Bambi to come with him. She is tempted but ultimately declines, having spent her life working in sex work since the age of twelve and believing she cannot pursue anything else.

Before leaving, Pol clears Noel’s belongings and seizes the money saved for Pining. He shadow-tracks Kid from dawn to dusk, avoiding detection as the officer goes about his day, and finally follows him back to his apartment complex to shoot him in the head, leaving no witnesses behind. On his final day in Manila, Pol visits Mama Charlie’s to bid farewell to his colleagues. The club—renamed Hijos after a raid—still feels the same: the owner, workers, decor, and even the macho-dancer routines remain, but a new corrupt police liaison replaces Kid on the club’s deals. Though some friends urge him to reconsider, Pol is resolved to return to the country.

Pol and Bambi escort Pining to safety and hand over the money Noel saved for her education. Pol begs Bambi to accompany him, but she refuses once again. They part with a heavy mix of tenderness and sorrow, and Pol boards the bus that carries him away from Manila, a quiet smile crossing his face as the city fades from view.
