Captain Jeremy Bradford embarks on a lavish cruise, tasked with ferrying an opera troupe to Rio de Janeiro. His teen daughter Polly, dreaming of a singing career, skips school and secretly boards the liner. When Bradford discovers her disobedience, he makes her work, but Polly plans to enjoy the tropical voyage with her own adventures and romance.
