Acquitted of a crime of passion, a soldier (Daniel Gelin) moves to Lisbon still haunted by the impulsive murder of his unfaithful wife. There he meets the striking widow Francoise Arnoul, who offers a chance at love. However, her own dark past emerges, leaving him sorrowful yet wiser.
