Lavender

Athena, a fragrance teacher and owner of a scent shop, is lonely and depressed, longing for her deceased boyfriend Andrew. Each day she buys a helium balloon, writes a message on it, and releases it hoping it will reach Andrew in the afterlife. Her routine shows a life missing love and purpose.

One night, an injured angel named Angel crashes onto Athena's balcony. At first she suspects a burglar, but he explains he cannot return to heaven until the Holy Door opens and he must gather love to regain his wings. He asks to stay, promising to be her servant in exchange for shelter.

Athena lets him stay at her place, and Angel makes it clear he does not eat human food; he survives on the love of humans. He agrees to be her servant for reimbursement and to help him recover his powers. Their strange bargain begins a new dynamic in her life.

Chow Chow, Athena's nosy neighbor who adores his dog also named Chow Chow, appears and is instantly smitten with Angel. He comes over with his dog, and through conversation he learns Athena's past and her connection to Andrew. He reveals that Andrew was his childhood friend and that Chow Chow moved across the hall to keep near Andrew.

Angel and Chow Chow become fast friends; each night Chow Chow brings Angel to clubs where he earns money and attention from women. Angel uses the money to buy shoes, explaining that heaven lacks shoes. Yet he still wears the old boots Athena gave him.

Athena frowns on Angel's new friendship with Chow Chow and warns him to stay away from Chow Chow's influence. She fears it will stop him from helping her move on and from returning to heaven.

To help Athena move on, Angel and Chow Chow plan a single guy party at Athena's house to set her up. Athena throws out the guests' shoes in anger, and Angel's favorite pair is among them. The shoe incident underscores the rift between them.

Athena and Chow Chow argue about Angel's place in their hearts, and Angel decides to leave for days in search of his missing shoes. The search becomes a sign of his attachment to Athena and his fear of losing her.

Athena eventually finds Angel outside in the pouring rain, soaked and ecstatic after discovering his missing shoes. They share a heartfelt conversation that helps them understand their feelings. The moment marks a turning point in their relationship.

The two travel to Europe to prepare for Angel's return to heaven. Athena packs Andrew's belongings for Angel to bring to Andrew and the two visit a lavender field to pick a bouquet, a symbol of Andrew's favorite scent. The journey marks a turning point toward closure.

On the train en route to the Holy Door location, Athena and Angel make love so he gains the strength to fly. They cuddle together, awaiting the opening of the Holy Door. The intimate moment reinforces their bond as they face separation.

When the Holy Door opens, Angel flies out the train window back to heaven. Their goodbye helps Athena finally close the chapter with Andrew, bringing a measure of resolution. The departure ends their direct companionship for now.

Back in Hong Kong, Athena discovers a man in white coveralls at her balcony, wearing Angel's boots. He introduces himself as Angelo, the restaurant owner downstairs, and he resembles Angel, suggesting a possible new chapter or a hidden identity.
