While waiting for the train that will carry them to their honeymoon, newlyweds Juan and Lázara are torn apart by a federal army commander who is conscripting men to fight the revolutionaries. Lázara follows Juan with the troops, only to watch him fall in a battle against the Villistas. From that point her future is decided by whoever wins the next conscription lottery, leaving her longing for a home of her own.
