Vaidehi is married to the rich Raghu. Outside, she has a sophisticated life, but inside the home Raghu is abusive and has extramarital affairs. This toxic dynamic shapes her early years.

Raghu's abuse leads to Vaidehi being banished from the household, and she returns to her parents. They reject her because their family's reputation would be tainted if she stays. She soon learns she is pregnant.

Raghu and his father plot to use Vaidehi's baby as their heir. They call Vaidehi back, feigning remorse, and she returns thinking Raghu has mended his ways. This sets up her return and the danger that follows.

A friend warns Vaidehi about Raghu's true intentions. She escapes from Raghu's henchmen. She goes on the run, seeking safety.

Raju, a petty but kind-hearted thief, helps Vaidehi and gives her money. They plan to reach Haripur, where she hopes to start anew. This marks the beginning of their alliance.

Vaidehi and Raju gatecrash a wedding, where Vaidehi meets Maithili, a middle-class bride. The wedding reveals social pressures like dowry and the groom's father's harassment toward Maithili's father. Vaidehi tries to help Maithili's family by offering money from Raju's heist.

Gulshan attempts to rape Maithili but is stopped by Raju. Gulabchand recognizes the money Raju stole earlier and informs the groom's family, turning Maithili into a suspect of impropriety. Raju publicly acknowledges the theft; Maithili defends herself as the groom's family flees.

Raghu finds Vaidehi and forces her to return home. On the way, they encounter a protest mob, giving Vaidehi a chance to escape. This moment marks a turning point as she continues toward Haripur.

Vaidehi reaches the town of Haripur and meets Janki, a theatre actress in love with her colleague Manish. Janki is pregnant and unbound by societal norms, offering Vaidehi a new ally. Their meeting sets up new relationships and conflicts.

Purushottam, the theatre director, belittles Janki to Manish and sows conflict. He threatens to call Raghu, worsening Vaidehi's concerns. Lata intervenes and puts Vaidehi on a train, guiding her escape.

Vaidehi's train is robbed by bandits, but Bhulwa saves the passengers. Vaidehi faints at the sight of blood, and Bhulwa takes her to Ramdulari, a midwife who bravely opposes local leaders. Ramdulari's son Prakash tries to educate the villagers and falls in love with Sushma, while Gajendra and Virendra terrorize the community; Ramdulari is later killed.

Bhwla and his army kill Virendra and his goons; Vaidehi escapes with Sushma and Prakash. She exposes Gajendra as a rapist and murderer, triggering a broader outrage among the women. Raghu's outlook shifts as he witnesses Vaidehi's courage.

Raghu reforms his ways after Vaidehi's stand and their shared struggles. They reconcile and return to New York City as a proper married couple. The journey from oppression to renewed partnership becomes their healing arc.

Vaidehi gives birth to a daughter named Ramdulari. She reunites with Raju, now a taxi driver, who is married to Maithili. This marks a new chapter of family ties in their intertwined lives.

Vaidehi invites Raju to a charity dance show with Janki in the main role. All the money from the performances goes toward funding women's organizations in India. The moment signals Vaidehi's ongoing commitment to social change.
