Among the researchers, Folke Nilsson is given the specific task of observing Isak Bjørvik. This requires Folke to sit silently in an umpire's chair within Isak's kitchen, focusing intently on his subject without any verbal interaction.

To entice Isak into allowing the study, Folke promises him a horse in return for his cooperation. However, Isak is disillusioned when he receives only a dala horse, a small, decorative wooden horse, which falls short of his expectations.
