At home in Burkina Faso, young Mabo Keïta reads a schoolbook on the porch while his parents nap. An elderly stranger arrives with his hammock, introducing himself as a griot—a West African musician who recounts tribal histories, genealogies, and oral lore. The griot’s age‑old role, passed from father to son, opens Mabo to his cultural heritage.
