Vanitha bursts into Thampi's home, frightened and pleading for shelter. Thampi, a weary scriptwriter, decides to help and offers her a bed for the night. He agrees she can stay with the understanding she will leave in the morning.

That morning, Vanitha refuses to leave, insisting she has nowhere else to go. She begins opening up about her life, and Thampi listens with growing interest as she recounts her history. Their conversation marks the start of a dangerous but compelling bond.

Vanitha explains how her family fell from grace after her father's bankruptcy and her mother's departure with a stranger. She describes poverty, a brother ruined by drugs, and her own turn to writing and poetry for solace. Her tale sets the stage for a dramatic life story that pulls Thampi into her world.

Her mother leaves with the mysterious benefactor, and soon afterward her father is found dead, having taken his own life under pressure. Vanitha attempts to secure work at the local bank to support herself and her brother. Palodan, a moneylender, offers her a job but expects repayment in questionable favors.

With debts piling up and no place to stay, Vanitha moves from a women's hostel to Hotel Blue Moon. She befriends Geetha and meets her cousin Priyadarshan, a bar singer, who becomes her confidant. She and Priyadarshan grow closer, and their relationship pushes her toward a life on the run.

Vanitha and Priyan decide to elope, hoping for a fresh start. The hotel staff intervene, violence erupts, and Priyan is beaten and taken away in a police jeep. Vanitha witnesses the chaos from a room window, frightened and desperate.

That night Palodan attempts to rape Vanitha, and she stabs him in self-defense. She flees and runs into Thampi's home seeking protection. Palodan's men pursue her, complicating Thampi's already precarious position.

Thampi, drawn into the case, begins to search for information about Palodan and the events to protect Vanitha's name. Palodan and his associates corner him in a room, but they let him go with the condition that his name not be tarnished.

Malathi, Thampi's wife, arrives with their daughter and misreads the situation, assuming Thampi is involved with Vanitha. The family tensions rise as they investigate the shadow seen at Thampi's house. The subplot risks tearing the family apart.

Hotel Blue Moon staff track Vanitha to Gayathri Theatres and arrive to retrieve her. Palodan's men attempt to strip her, and she leaps from a window to escape. In the ensuing chaos, Priyan is killed by Vanitha in self-defense.

Thampi arrives with the police, and Vanitha surrenders to the authorities. He helps document the case, hoping to tell her story faithfully on stage.

Thampi turns the events into a successful theatre production, delivering a dramatic but hopeful narrative on stage. Offstage, Vanitha faces formal charges for murder and immoral trafficking and is sentenced to life in prison, underscoring that the true ending is far from happy.
