What Happens in Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations (2021) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Ryunosuke Momose [Akiyoshi Nakao] lives in a ruined, 2071 world where demons dominate and humanity is enslaved. An elderly inventor named George Karizaki [Noritaka Hamao] reaches out to him with a critical mission: using a Cyclotron Driver to send his consciousness back to 2021 so he can alter the timeline and save the future by becoming Kamen Rider Century. To pull this off, Ryunosuke must team up with his father from that era, Hideo Momose [Arata Furuta], and together they must navigate a perilous path through time and memory to set the planet right.

In 2021, a resurgent threat awakens the demon Diablo [Yoji Ueda], who is joined by the Deadmans and their allies, the Crispers, who revere him as kin. As these dangers simmer, Ikki Igarashi [Kentaro Maeda] finds himself at Happy Spa, reconnecting with old allies—Mei Sudo [Asuka Kawazu], Ryo Ogami [Yuki Ikushima], and Sora Ogami—while witnessing a tense confrontation between Hideo Momose [Arata Furuta] and his son Shinichi. The moment becomes a catalyst, pushing Ikki to intervene and uncover a larger conspiracy rooted in the past.

George Karizaki [Noritaka Hamao] becomes aware of the escalating threat when Himiko Crisper [Rica Matsumoto] attacks Reika Shindai and Ryoga Shindai at the Southern Base. To investigate, he sends Daiji Igarashi [Wataru Hyuga] to scout a location and verify his suspicions. Meanwhile, Rintaro Shindo [Takaya Yamaguchi] travels to the Northern Base at the behest of Sophia [Rina Chinen] to return the Kaenken Rekka to Touma Kamiyama [Shuichiro Naito], another thread in the tangled web of Rider legacies.

The story intensifies when Ryunosuke arrives from the future to help, but his contact with the world remains impossible. Diablo attacks, and Ikki, together with his inner demon Vice, transforms to face the threat. Ryunosuke urges Hideo to transform into Kamen Rider Century alongside him, yet their fusion spirals into instability, culminating in Century Break. The crisis forces Ikki and Vice to seek help from Touma and Rintaro to stabilize the father and son and restore their humanity.

George, now deeply invested in the unfolding events, explains that Diablo’s seal traces back to a Shocker laboratory, with the evil being sealed away and later released by scheme and theft. The stakes rise when a singularity in Egypt signals further trouble, prompting Yuri to dispatch Ryo Ogami [Yuki Ikushima] and Tetsuo Daishinji [Hiroaki Oka] to confront the Khufu Crisper, highlighting the global reach of the conflict. The revelation that Ryunosuke time-traveled from the past to the present throws himself and Hideo into a painful reckoning about family, responsibility, and the heavy cost of salvation.

Ryunosuke finally clarifies his own timeline: he was a 1971 geneticist whose work was branded “demonic” by Shocker, a past that landed him in the agency’s dark projects. He helped engineer captured humans into Kaijin, including Takeshi Hongo, the first Kamen Rider. When Takeshi urged him to embrace science for good, Ryunosuke attempted an escape but was captured and used as the first test subject for Diablo. Diablo’s rampage carried him into a drift through a wormhole that eventually delivered Ryunosuke to 2071, where he met George and gained the means to travel through time.

With the truth laid bare, Ikki persuades Ryunosuke to pursue a proper reconciliation with Hideo. Yet Ryunosuke’s physical body in 2071 remains in danger, forcing a grand plan: a multinational guard to shield his future body while several squads fight across the globe. The mission relies on the Book Gate Wonder Ride Books and a future-powered clone Rider system, enabling a coordinated assault against the Crispers. The team includes Kento Fukamiya [Ryou Aoki], Ren Akamichi [Eiji Togashi], Ryo Ogami [Yuki Ikushima], Reika Shindai [Angela Mei], Ryoga Shindai [Ken Shonozaki], and Hiromi Kadota [Junya Komatsu], while Touma Kamiyama [Shuichiro Naito], Yuri [Tomohiro Ichikawa], and Sakura Igarashi [Ayaka Imoto] coordinate critical roles from the field.

As the plan unfolds, the fight broadens to include the deeper Rider lineage: Ikki Igarashi [Kentaro Maeda] as Revi, and the broader roster of Riders who meld into a united front—Sophia [Rina Chinen] as Calibur, and Reika Shindai [Angela Mei] as Sabela, among others. The longer arc centers on the revelation that Century was created specifically to confront Diablo, a truth that reshapes every ally’s purpose. The teams work in tandem, with Touma’s ascent to Xross Saber and Revice’s Neo Batta Genome upgrade signaling a bridge between generations of Riders as they combine their powers.

The climactic battle culminates in a coordinated strike that leverages the strengths of every rider and each Rider Kick, designed to cancel Diablo’s ritual once and for all. As victory finally nears, Diablo is defeated, but not without a price: Ryunosuke begins to fade from existence. In a poignant farewell, Takeshi Hongo’s spirit visits Ryunosuke, thanking him for carrying the Rider legacy forward. With Takeshi’s blessing, Ryunosuke vanishes, and Hideo rides the bullet train with Shinichi, clutching his father’s ticket as a quiet tribute to the long road they walked together. The future is saved, but the memory of the 50-year Rider lineage remains a beacon for those who continue to carry the legacy.

Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations Plot Explained: Your Questions Answered

The questions people ask most about Kamen Rider: Beyond Generations (2021): what happens in the confusing scenes, why the characters do what they do, the twists, hidden details and what the ending means. Each answer contains spoilers.

Q1

Why does Ryunosuke travel back to 2021 instead of staying in 2071?

Ryunosuke travels to 2021 because Diablo cannot be defeated before his revival nor after gaining full power, the only window to stop him is during the 2021 revival period. In 2071, demons have already enslaved humanity, making it too late. George Karizaki sends Ryunosuke's consciousness back using the Cyclotron Driver so he can become Kamen Rider Century and prevent Diablo's rise before it happens.

Foreshadowing: George explains early that Ryunosuke must alter the timeline to save the future, hinting at the time-specific nature of the mission.

  • ryunosuke momose
  • time travel
  • cyclotron driver
  • diablo
  • 2071
  • 2021
Q2

How is Kamen Rider Century formed and what does it require?

Kamen Rider Century is formed through the fusion of two riders, Ryunosuke Momose and his father Hideo Momose, when they transform together using the Century Driver. The fusion requires both father and son to genuinely reconcile and unite their hearts; without this emotional bond, the transformation becomes unstable and causes the dangerous Century Break.

Foreshadowing: At Happy Spa, Ikki witnesses the confrontation between Hideo and Shinichi, which plants the seed for the reconciliation arc.

  • kamen rider century
  • hideo momose
  • ryunosuke momose
  • century driver

Q3

Why does the Century Break occur and what makes it dangerous?

The Century Break occurs when the fusion between Ryunosuke and Hideo becomes unstable, which happens when their hearts are not truly aligned. The unstable fusion causes massive destructive energy that threatens to tear them apart and erase their humanity. Touma and Rintaro must intervene to stabilize them and restore their human forms.

Foreshadowing: Ryunosuke forces Hideo to fuse with him before they truly reconcile, setting up the instability.

How is Diablo connected to the Shocker organization?

Diablo was created by Shocker in 1971 as their ultimate weapon. Ryunosuke Momose, a geneticist working for Shocker, was the first test subject used to create Diablo. When Diablo became uncontrollable, Shocker sealed him away in an old laboratory. The demon was later released through theft and scheme, allowing Diablo to return in 2021.

Foreshadowing: George discovers Diablo's seal traces back to a Shocker laboratory, hinting at the organization's involvement.

  • diablo
  • shocker
  • kaijin

Q5

Why does Ryunosuke disappear at the end of the movie?

Ryunosuke fades from existence because his physical body in 2071 was only preserved by George Karizaki's technology while his consciousness traveled to 2021. After Diablo is defeated and the timeline changes, the technology can no longer maintain his body. Additionally, his very existence becomes paradoxically impossible since the future he came from has been altered. Takeshi Hongo's spirit appears to thank him before he vanishes.

Foreshadowing: George warns that Ryunosuke's physical body in 2071 remains in danger throughout the mission.

Hideo reconcile with Shinichi because their bond is essential for stabilizing the Kamen Rider Century transformation. Throughout the film, Hideo carries guilt over abandoning his family to work on his research. Ikki persuades Ryunosuke to pursue proper reconciliation with Hideo, and only when father and son truly unite emotionally can they achieve the stable Century form needed to defeat Diablo.

Q8

How does the Cyclotron Driver enable time travel in the movie?

The Cyclotron Driver, created by George Karizaki, sends the user's consciousness back in time while their physical body remains preserved in the future. Ryunosuke uses it to transport his mind to 2021, allowing him to work alongside the past-era Riders. The technology is advanced enough to bridge the 50-year gap between 2071 and 2021.

Takeshi, the first Kamen Rider, recognizes that Ryunosuke carried the Rider spirit forward through decades. His gratitude represents the full circle of the Rider mythology, acknowledging Ryunosuke's contribution to creating the hero tradition.

Ikki resolves to aid them by returning Hideo's work badge and becomes personally invested in helping them reconcile, understanding that family bonds are essential for the Century transformation.

How does defeating Diablo change the timeline and restore the future?

Diablo's defeat in 2021 prevents the demonic apocalypse that would occur in 2071, thereby restoring the future timeline. Since Diablo was the source of humanity's enslavement in 2071, eliminating him during his revival window allows the future to revert to a better state. The coordinated Rider Kick attack cancels Diablo's ritual completely, saving both timelines.

Foreshadowing: The entire mission hinges on defeating Diablo during the 2021 window to prevent the 2071 dystopia.
