Leon, ever the skeptic, attempts to console her by denying Kate’s existence as anything more than a figment of grief. However, Jessie perceives a deeper reality behind her mother’s narrative.

This discovery sends shivers down their spines, compelling them to share their findings with Sheriff Pruitt for further investigation.

Their quest leads them to Mrs. Davis, a former cook for Leon, who shares ominous tales of Moses Harper—a shadow from Kate’s life. Convinced that Moses is entangled in the supernatural circumstances surrounding them, Jessie and Preston visit his abandoned voodoo shrine, only to be intimidated by threatening figures that chase them away.

As they flee, Preston divulges his long-buried feelings for Jessie, leaving her emotional turmoil heightened. He invites her to stay with his family, an offer she reluctantly considers. However, just as she begins to settle in, tragedy strikes as Preston is attacked by the vengeful woman, knocking him unconscious.

Alone and desperate, Jessie calls upon Kate in a mystical incantation. As the air thickens around her, Sheriff Pruitt interjects with a startling revelation: the infant in the tale is not Leon’s daughter but Kate’s own flesh and blood.
