Hold Back The Night

In 1942, Anne hands Sam a bottle of scotch and tells him to save it for a very special occasion. She asks him to marry her before he ships out, but Sam is reluctant to risk making her a widow. The bottle becomes a symbol of a promise awaiting a future moment.

On leave in Melbourne, Sam meets Kitty and contemplates a dalliance. He learns Kitty has a husband who may be a POW or dead, so he ends the encounter. The visit tests his vow to Anne, reinforcing his commitment to her.

Sam returns to Anne and is initially dismayed to find she has a major admirer. They straighten things out and decide to marry, sealing their plan with the saved bottle. The future together feels possible again.

During the Korean War, Sam's Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, First Marine Division hunts the retreating North Korean Army. They are ordered to provide flank protection as Chinese forces enter the war. The unit braces for a tougher, wider conflict.
