Why this book?

Earl Hamner Jr.'s NBC film retains Heidi's life with her grandfather, removal to serve as Klara's companion, the Frankfurt household, return, and Klara's attempt to walk, but substantially rewrites the family tree. Dete becomes the grandfather's estranged daughter and Heidi's aunt, while Herr Sesemann is made Heidi's uncle; Rottenmeier is softened and given a romantic possibility absent from Spyri. Those changes reorganize why adults claim and release the child, making partial adaptation more accurate than direct. The novel provides the original relationships, religious development, Peter's household, and longer sequence of homesickness and reconciliation.
