Gully Rowdy

The film opens with CI Raghu Nayak pointing a gun at Vasu and Head-constable Pattapagalu Venkatrao on the Vizag beach. Vasu reflects on his lineage as the grandson of justice-seeking Meesala Simhachalam, setting up a legacy of conflict. A looming threat in the form of Bairagi Naidu hangs over the city.

Simhachalam publicly mortifies Bairagi Naidu, shaming him in front of the city and cementing the rift between their factions. Naidu sees an opportunity and persuades Simhachalam to groom Vasu into a rowdy to carry on the family’s legacy. The plan seeds the reluctant transformation of Vasu’s path.

Naidu urges Simhachalam to mold Vasu into a formidable rowdy, exploiting the absence of an heir to the old man’s criminal empire. He argues that Vasu’s education and instincts could be weaponized for power. Vasu resents the idea but feels compelled to comply for his grandfather.

Reluctantly, Vasu adopts the rowdy path, hoping to shield his grandfather and preserve the family name. He fights inner guilt as he shifts from a bright student to a streetwise troublemaker. The transformation is driven by loyalty rather than desire for crime.

Bairagi Naidu climbs to the heights of the city’s crime world, expanding his influence with brutal efficiency. His son Nandu joins the rampage, unleashing mayhem on the community. The city is destabilized as the two men consolidate power.

Vasu’s attention shifts to Sahitya, a software employee and Venkatrao’s daughter, as love blossoms amid danger. Sahitya returns his feelings, signaling a personal stake in the conflicts around them. Their romance becomes entangled with the family’s financial crisis.

Their land is valued far higher than Bairagi’s coercive demands, with prices proposed at ₹2 crore and later pressured down to ₹50,000 by threats. Vasu and Sahitya’s family decide to abduct Bairagi to recover the money, coordinating a large-scale recce and a risky ransom scheme. The plan tests loyalties and pushes the family toward danger.

Vasu, Sahitya, and Venkatrao execute the plan to abduct Bairagi and retrieve the ransom, moving through careful reconnaissance and stealth. Bairagi senses trouble and the operation seems to be on the verge of success. The plan collapses when a mysterious shooter intervenes and takes Bairagi down at point-blank range.

With Bairagi dead, Nayak is reappointed to investigate the case, and the case’s complexity grows as old evidence surfaces. The lab’s collected samples and fingerprints become the central focus for tracing the truth. Nayak starts sensing Bairagi’s enmity has collided with Vasu and Venkatrao.

Vasu and Venkatrao attempt to influence Nayak’s investigation by manipulating lab proofs and planting a bug in Nayak’s shoe. They work to keep Nayak off their tracks while using Nayak’s own pursuit to misdirect him. The deception intensifies the cat-and-mouse game around who killed Bairagi.

It becomes clear that Nayak is the son of Bairagi’s second wife, a shocking twist that links the detective to the criminal family and complicates the pursuit. This kinship forces Nayak to confront personal conflicts amid professional duties. The truth thickens the web of motives driving the investigation.

Nandu seizes Venkatrao’s family, prompting a coordinated attack where Vasu, Nayak, and Venkatrao trap Nandu and rescue the family. Nayak shoots Nandu dead in Vasu’s trap, turning the city’s power struggle into a personal victory for the trio. The immediate danger gives way to a fragile peace.

Simhachalam overhears that Vasu assassinated Bairagi and, perhaps, was involved in the earlier death of Bairagi’s father. Vasu confesses the truth to his grandfather but refuses to claim credit for the murder, reaffirming his distaste for rowdyism. Simhachalam chooses to absolve him and lets Vasu live life his own way.

The story closes with Venkatrao carrying Vasu to a new settlement, providing a light, comedic end after a life of turmoil. Vasu steps into a new chapter with Sahitya by his side and the shadow of violence fading. The film ends on a note of cautious optimism for the future.
