A story of betrayal, theft, and revenge unfolds on the volcanic islands of the Azores. Maria is left devastated when her companion, David, steals a sum of money and flees to Pico. Seeking justice, she enlists the help of Police Inspector Lucas to track him down. While David finds solace and love with a local named Marina on the island of Faial, Maria and Lucas pursue him across the islands, eventually leading to a dramatic confrontation high in the mountains. As they settle their accounts, the events echo a classic Greek tragedy.
