After completing military service, three friends—Juuso, Late and Pyry—return to their tiny Finnish village, where employment is hard to find. Juuso signs on for a Norwegian oil‑drilling platform. Late refuses his family’s chicken farm, tries to find work in Gothenburg, but is deported back to Finland. Pyry, caught in a dispute over his late father’s estate, drops his agricultural studies and, together with Late, takes a job at a steel mill in southern Finland.
