Sam Wheat and Molly Jensen start their new life together in a cozy New York City apartment. They are excited about making minor renovations and embracing their future together, showcasing their love and commitment.

While renovating their apartment, Sam discovers an old penny. He encourages Molly to keep it as a good luck charm, symbolizing their hopes for a bright future.

At work, Sam uncovers suspicious activity in several bank accounts. He confides in his colleague and close friend, Carl Bruner, trusting him to help with the situation.

After a night out at the theater, Sam and Molly are confronted by an armed thug named Willy Lopez. In a terrifying turn of events, Sam is shot and witnesses his own death.

After his death, Sam finds himself in a state of disbelief as he watches Molly grieve over his lifeless body. He is unable to leave her side, realizing how deeply she is affected by his tragic fate.

Sam observes helplessly as Molly succumbs to despair following his murder. Carl visits her, attempting to comfort her while Willy searches for more trouble in their home.

Sam meets Oda Mae Brown, a psychic who surprisingly can hear him despite being a fraud. He persuades her to warn Molly of the danger posed by Willy, but she is initially skeptical.

Sam discovers that his friend Carl is involved in a money laundering scheme. At the same time, Molly seeks the police's help through Oda Mae, but they dismiss her claims.

With the guidance of a poltergeist, Sam learns to manipulate objects with his mind. He convinces Oda Mae to impersonate him to withdraw funds from a fake bank account for a good cause.

Carl confronts Molly after realizing the money is missing, threatening her safety. Sam rushes to Oda Mae's apartment to warn her of the impending danger brought on by Carl.

In a desperate attempt to protect Molly, Sam and Oda Mae confront Willy. Their struggle leads to Willy's death in a traffic accident, ending his threat.

Back at Molly's apartment, Sam tries to communicate with her using the cherished penny. Finally, she begins to recognize the truth and allows Oda Mae in to help contact the police.

As Carl becomes aware of Sam's efforts to protect Molly, he attempts to escape but ends up being impaled in a tragic accident. This concludes the immediate danger posed to Molly.

With peace restored, Sam finally finds a way to make himself visible to Molly as a divine light surrounds them. He shares a heartfelt goodbye, expressing gratitude for Oda Mae's help as he moves on to the afterlife.

Sam bids farewell to Molly surrounded by what appear to be angels. He leaves behind cherished memories and the enduring power of love that transcends even death.
