Commissioned for WDR’s series “A House for Us,” the two‑part program “From the Family of Reptiles” (paired with “The Island”) forms a complete two‑episode work shot by cinematographer Michael Ballhaus. It follows eight‑year‑old Ute (Katja Wulff), who repeatedly runs away from home and a youth centre, seeking refuge at the zoo, especially by the crocodile enclosure. Kindergarten teacher Monika Brehm (Lisa Kreuzer) tries to enter Ute’s world, recognizing her escapes as a withdrawal from her parents and the adult world.
