Fright

Amanda, a college student, arrives at the large estate in the woods to look after Tara. She notices the heavy number of locks on the front door and meets Tara before they prepare for bed. The uneasy atmosphere hints at something sinister lurking in the house as Helen and Jim depart.

While Amanda makes tea in the kitchen, a man watches her from the window and odd noises echo through the house. The doorbell rings and her boyfriend Chris appears at the doorway. He explains that Helen and Jim aren't married and that Helen's actual husband was institutionalized after an attempt on her life, and they lounge on the couch until Helen calls to check in and Chris leaves.

As Chris steps outside, a man hiding outside launches a brutal attack, punching him repeatedly. Chris collapses, and Amanda is left horrified by the sudden violence on the property.

Amanda grows worried and calls the restaurant where Helen is dining with Jim and Dr. Cordell. The call is cut off when the line goes dead after Helen answers. Dr. Cordell contacts the institution and learns that Brian escaped earlier in the night.

Back at the door, Chris is found covered in blood, with Brian presenting himself as a concerned neighbor who heard a commotion. Chris loses consciousness, and Brian consoles Amanda, offering some sense of safety as she deals with the shock.

Brian refuses to let Amanda upstairs and starts calling her Helen, revealing his hold over the situation. Realizing he is Helen's ex-husband, Amanda begins to play along with his delusions to avoid tipping him off.

Having fallen asleep, Brian's hold over the house is momentarily relaxed, and Amanda attempts to leave with Tara. Chris regains consciousness and tries to confront Brian, but Brian murders him, maintaining control over the house.

Amanda escapes out the front door just as police begin to arrive, but Brian grabs her, pulls her back inside, and threatens both Amanda and Tara with a glass shard.

Helen and Jim arrive with Dr. Cordell and police surrounding the house. A standoff unfolds as they try to coax Brian out of the home while he remains defiant.

Brian demands that Helen come inside, but she insists Amanda and Tara must be allowed outside first. The tense negotiation continues as the group attempts to de-escalate the situation and secure a release for the captives.

Helen enters the home hoping to resolve the danger, but Brian locks her inside and begins choking her after discovering a tear gas canister she has brought. Amanda intervenes by slashing Brian's face with a glass shard, creating a window of opportunity to escape.

Brian holds Tara and is forced to hand her to Helen as the stand-off reaches its peak. Amanda slowly backs away, and in a final act of vengeance for Chris, she shoots Brian in the head, ending the threat for good.
