This documentary tells the inspiring story of how degraded farmland in New Zealand’s Banks Peninsula was transformed into a thriving native forest over three decades. Botanist Hugh Wilson, the reserve's kaitiaki or manager, initially faced skepticism and anger when he proposed allowing gorse to act as a nurse canopy to regenerate the land. Now celebrated for his innovative approach, Wilson oversees 1500 hectares of resplendent forest, teeming with wildlife and featuring numerous waterfalls, demonstrating the power of natural regeneration.
