Fletch Lives

Investigative journalist Irwin M. Fletcher, also known as Fletch, dons a waitress disguise at a Greek restaurant. His intent is to expose a gambling ring, but his cover is quickly compromised, forcing him to escape before he can finish his investigation.

Upon returning to the office with his story, Fletch is met with both relief and frustration. While his boss is pleased with the article, he denies Fletch the promised vacation, insisting on another assignment instead, much to Fletch's dismay.

Fletch receives a surprising call from a Louisiana attorney informing him of his great aunt's passing. He learns that he has inherited her dilapidated plantation known as Belle Isle, leading him to impulsively quit his job.

Upon his arrival at Belle Isle, Fletch meets attorney Amanda Ross. She introduces him to the plantation, which is in a state of disrepair, and Fletch humorously comments on its potential transformation into a mausoleum with some renovations.

While completing paperwork in town, Amanda informs Fletch that a buyer is interested in purchasing the plantation for $225,000. Instinctually suspicious of the offer, Fletch declines to sell, choosing instead to explore the plantation's potential further.

Fletch awakens to find Amanda murdered the following morning after they spend the night together. The local police arrest Fletch, not for the murder, but simply because he annoys the police chief.

In prison, Fletch meets a bizarre inmate named Ben Dover, whose antics provide moments of levity amidst the dire situation. Just as Fletch is about to lose hope, attorney Hamilton 'Ham' Johnson manages to secure his release.

Back at Belle Isle, Fletch has a strange encounter with the local KKK, who come looking to eliminate him as the 'undesirable.' Fletch humorously pretends to be one of them, creating a distraction while Calculus, the caretaker, chases them away.

Real estate agent Becky Ann Culpepper approaches Fletch with a new, higher offer of $250,000 from a confidential buyer. Intrigued and determined to investigate, Fletch embarks on a quest to uncover the true intentions behind the offers.

Fletch disguises himself as an exterminator to infiltrate Amanda's house. During this covert mission, he uncovers troubling connections to televangelist Jimmy Lee Farnsworth and a corporation named 'Bluebird.'

Determined to probe deeper, Fletch attends a live broadcast of Reverend Farnsworth's show. He fakes a conversion during the altar call to extract crucial information about the Reverend's shady dealings involving his plantation.

With guidance from Ham, Fletch discovers irregularities surrounding Amanda's death. Although labeled a natural cause, Fletch senses foul play and decides to dig deeper into the surrounding circumstances.

In a climactic encounter, Fletch confronts Ham with the evidence he has gathered against him. Cleverly maneuvering through the confrontation, Fletch ensures he escapes unscathed while striving to bring justice for Amanda.

The police arrive just in time to support Fletch, revealing that Calculus is actually an undercover FBI agent. They had been investigating the Reverend and his dubious connections to the development corporation for quite some time.

After a series of chaotic events, Fletch returns to California, celebrated for his investigative work. He discovers that he has received a large insurance payout for Belle Isle's destruction, leading to humorous complications involving his ex-wife.
