High command dismisses the threat of a German assault in a sub‑zero blizzard; a pre‑dawn attack erupts. With communications down, unarmed Sgt. Smith must crawl through enemy fire into town to warn civilians. Based on true accounts, the film follows his bravery, the clash of duty and longing for home, and that loss of hope can be harsher than death.
