Set in Normandy during the latter half of the nineteenth century, Jeanne Dandieu lives in a manor with her parents and their servant Rosalie. She meets the handsome Julien, quickly falls in love and marries him. Joy turns to betrayal when she learns Julien married her for her fortune and has been unfaithful, even having an affair with Rosalie.
