In 1954, a French nun escorted by a sergeant journeys through Tonkin, preaching Catholicism. A mute child leads her to a remote village where they stay with a respected carpenter to prepare projection equipment for their propaganda. During a stormy night, maquisards surround the house but retreat after seeing the carpenter’s standing. Later, rising waters cause the child to lose a crucial message left by a wounded resistance fighter.
