Krishna is an intellectually-disabled man with the mental age of a seven-year-old, living a peaceful life in the hill station of Avalanchi under the care of Victor, the kind owner of a chocolate factory where he works. One day, he excitedly tells the village that he will become a father. That night, his daughter is born, but her mother Banumathy (not shown on-screen) dies during childbirth. Krishna accepts the loss in his simple, hopeful way, convinced that Banumathy has “gone to God,” and he embraces fatherhood with boundless love. He names his daughter Nila and raises her with tenderness, finding joy in her growing up with the help of Victor and Krishna’s circle of disabled friends. Nila blossoms into a happy, curious child, and Krishna enrolls her in school, where she quickly settles in and forms a warm, maternal bond with the school’s vice-principal.

Nila quickly becomes a central part of Krishna’s world, and the pair embark on a modest, yet deeply affectionate life together. As Nila starts to make friends and learn, the village atmosphere shifts with small moments of joy and challenge, all underscored by Krishna’s unshakeable dedication to her well-being. The bond between father and daughter is portrayed with gentle humor and quiet, poignant honesty, reminding viewers that family can thrive on love, patience, and mutual trust.

When Shwetha sees Nila with Krishna, she recognizes Krishna from a photo and realizes that he is Banumathy’s husband, making Nila her niece. This revelation rattles the delicate balance of the household. Shwetha refuses to let Nila stay with Krishna, fearing that he might accidentally hurt her. A tense confrontation follows, culminating in a scuffle between Krishna and Shwetha’s fiancé, Karthik. The conflict disrupts the fragile peace and pushes Krishna further into the center of the community’s attention, testing the strength of his love for Nila.

The turmoil attracts the attention of Rajendran, Rajendran, Shwetha and Banumathy’s father, who reveals a painful family history: Banumathy grew distant from him after choosing to marry Krishna. He proposes to take Krishna and Nila away, arguing that they belong to his family. Victor agrees, and the trio leaves for Chennai, but Rajendran’s plan takes a dangerous turn when he tricks Krishna into exiting the car and abandons him at a distance from home.

Distraught, Krishna wanders the city in search of Nila, asking strangers for news of her whereabouts. His journey leads him to a courtroom where he meets Vinod, a lawyer who initially assumes Krishna is a wealthy man and promises him representation by his boss. Vinod introduces Krishna to his boss, Anuradha Ragunathan. Anu is cautious at first, doubting that Krishna is a sane father, but Victor arrives and explains their desperate situation, compelling Anu to take up the case.

Anu files a Habeas corpus suit against Rajendran, hopeful at first, but soon tempered by the reality that Rajendran’s lawyer is the formidable Bashyam, a senior advocate who has never lost a case. The High Court hearing centers on who should have custody of Nila and how she should be cared for. Throughout the proceedings, Krishna’s unwavering love and his deep, visible bond with his daughter push the case toward a moment of truth that neither side anticipated.

In a moving exchange, Bashyam invites Krishna to articulate how he would raise and financially support Nila, pressing him to demonstrate the feasibility of a life together. The heartfelt response from the pair—an explicit, silent portrayal of a father’s devotion and a daughter’s trust—leads Bashyam to withdraw the case, handing custody of Nila to Krishna. The courtroom falls silent as the decision is handed down, signaling a vindication of Krishna’s simple, steadfast approach to fatherhood.

With Nila now secured in Krishna’s care, the two spend time strengthening their bond before making a careful decision about Nila’s future. Krishna gently guides Nila toward a balanced life that honors both her need for stability and her dreams. He returns to Shwetha’s care, ensuring she can live a comfortable life with financial stability, and that she can grow up to become a doctor when the time comes. After this refuge of family, Krishna returns to Ooty to resume his humble work at Victor’s chocolate factory, carrying with him the resilience, patience, and love that make his relationship with Nila so enduring.
