In 1956, a respected Soviet scientist named Dau unexpectedly reunites with Maria, a Greek actress, during her brief three-day visit to Moscow. They haven't seen each other in 25 years. Dau, though successful, finds himself deeply unhappy with his current life. He hopes that Maria will help him rediscover lost beauty and harmony, but his idealized vision is challenged when his wife, Nora, returns home, complicating their reunion and revealing the complexities of his personal life.
