The film examines the dark sensibilities and cultural resonance of Butoh, the radical Japanese dance that emerged in the early 1960s as a revolt against convention. Deeply rooted in both traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, Butō employs frank sexuality and bodily distortion, reshaping classical movement to strip contemporary taboos and reveal a hidden realm of darkness and irrationality.
