Cymbeline, king of Britain, is furious that his daughter Imogen has chosen the modest yet worthy Posthumus as her husband, so he banishes him; Posthumus then goes off to fight for Rome. Disguised as a boy, Imogen sets out to search for him, while Posthumus boasts to his friend Iachimo that Imogen would never betray him. Iachimo is determined to prove him wrong.
