Rose’s father goes bankrupt and dies, and her fiancé leaves her. She becomes a maid at a Montmartre kindergarten for 150 children. Her caring nature makes her the kids’ favorite, especially bonding with Marie, a prostitute’s daughter who becomes jealous of the attention Rose receives from Dr. Libois, the school physician. When Rose unintentionally guides the class through a visiting scholar’s experiment and reveals her college degree, the principal moves to dismiss her, endangering her job and Marie’s future.
