Johnny Brett and King Shaw struggle as a down‑on‑their‑luck dance duo in New York City. A Broadway producer spots Brett and offers him the opportunity to partner with the talented singer‑actress Clare Bennett. Mistaking the situation, Brett thinks he is repaying a debt and inadvertently gives the producer the name of his current partner instead.
