Bachelor Apartment

Wayne Carter is a New York bachelor and a notorious playboy who pays little heed to the marital status of his numerous dalliances. He does, however, try to avoid certain married women, notably Agatha Carraway, who keeps pursuing him.

Helene and her younger sister Lita Andrews travel from a small town to the big city in search of fame and fortune. Helene is sensible and cautious, while Lita is flighty and dream-prone.

Lita believes a millionaire is interested in her and goes to dine at his apartment. An alarmed Helene follows to prevent anything untoward, only to find Lita dining with Carter's butler, Rollins.

Carter is instantly drawn to Helene and offers her a job as an executive secretary in his office. She initially refuses, cautious about his intentions, but, needing work, she eventually accepts.

Carter invites Helene to his apartment to take dictation, signaling a more personal connection. Agatha arrives, and her husband shows up shortly after; Agatha hides in the bedroom while Carter and Helene discuss marital issues, leaving Helene disenchanted and resigning.

Realizing he is in love with Helene, Carter relentlessly tries to prove his sincerity and deep feelings. Helene, gradually touched, agrees to meet him at his apartment, hoping for a real shift in their relationship.

Agatha returns uninvited, and her husband arrives armed, threatening Carter because he suspects infidelity. Helene, who has been in the bedroom with Agatha, exits and claims she is the only woman in the apartment, mollifying the husband who leaves.

Though the tense scene passes, Helene remains upset and begins to pull away. Carter becomes distraught, thinking he has lost the woman he loves, and Helene rebuffs his attempts to win her back.

Meanwhile, Lita runs off to live in sin with musical producer Lee Graham, a man Carter had introduced to help Helene. Helene worries about her sister and the dangers of the situation.

Carter tracks down Lita and Graham and reunites the two sisters, showing his genuine care and commitment. Helene begins to understand Carter's sincerity and the depth of his feelings.

With misunderstandings resolved, Helene accepts Carter's marriage proposal, recognizing his true devotion. The couple looks forward to a future together in the big city.
