Yasha loves Anna and shelters Siberian Pavel Kuganov, who later becomes a conscious factory worker. After Anna rejects Yasha’s proposal, he leaves for Siberia. Pavel is hailed as a hero after surviving a factory fire he caused, and Anna marries him. Pavel is a traitor and spy, handing Anna’s party ID to anti‑communists, leading to her expulsion.
