After years overseas, Fe returns to the Philippines to find her husband Dante unchanged—violent, angry, impotent. She works with him in his basket factory, begins an affair with Arturo, the manager under his father's control, while an anonymous admirer sends black fruit. Trapped between two men, Fe lashes out, taking desperate steps to claim independence.
