Jamie hasn't disclosed to his family that he and his ex-girlfriend Emily have broken up. When they unexpectedly meet at the train station in his hometown, Jamie persuades Emily to pretend they are still a couple. This elaborate ruse is meant to prevent his family from being disappointed during the Christmas season, but navigating the holiday festivities while maintaining the charade proves to be more complicated than either of them anticipated.
