Gracinda, a young laundry washer, lives with her godfather “Uncle” Jacinto and together they run a struggling laundry service for Lisbon residents in the out‑skirt village of Canecas. Determined to revive the business, she travels to the city to persuade Chico—Jacinto’s son and her lover—to return. Meanwhile, the village’s annual festivities spark a feud as Jacinto and the widowed rival Quitéria each hire different bands to play at the same time, turning the celebration into a lively showdown.
