Lucas, an American expat, starts working as an English teacher at a struggling small language school in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. He lives modestly and dreams of buying an abandoned roadside café that he often passes, though his sparse salary makes this difficult. His arrival marks the beginning of his new life in an unfamiliar environment.

Ken, a half-Japanese man raised by his uncle Nobu after his father’s suicide and his mother’s return to the United States, has been working since age fifteen at his uncle’s construction business. He secretly desires to learn English to reconnect with his mother in America someday. This sets the stage for his personal aspirations and emotional struggles.

Over a span of three days, Lucas and Ken meet for the first time. Initially reserved and uncertain, their interactions are cautious but gradually develop into a deeper connection. Their shared moments hint at the beginning of an unlikely friendship.
