During the French Revolution, Charles Darnay travels to Paris to free a former family servant, only to be arrested and sentenced by the revolutionary tribunal. His wife, Lucie Manette, is secretly adored by the dissolute yet noble Sydney Carton, who devises a self‑sacrificing plan to exchange places and save Darnay for the woman he loves.
