Vicky Austin, 15, visits her grandfather on Seven Bay Island with her sister Suzy and brother Rob. Their beloved retired Reverend Eaton pretends nothing is wrong despite a serious illness. Vicky reunites with Zachary Gray, a rich but emotionally troubled teen, and meets 17‑year‑old Adam Eddington, who asks her to assist on a dolphin‑research project involving Basil. She discovers she can telepathically communicate with Basil and his mate, and possibly with Adam, while navigating family concerns and new friendships.
