At the end of the 14th century, robbers kill Klaus’s parents and burn their house. Saved by monk Wigbold, he later becomes the pirate Klaus Störtebeker. In Hamburg he reunites with his brother Jan and his childhood friend Elizabeth, who is betrothed to Simon von Wallenrod—whose father Klaus believes murdered his family. Poor and seeking vengeance, Klaus turns to piracy.
