Haji Jabbar, a rich patriarch constantly rebuked by his family for his greed, plans to marry his daughter Parvin to an elderly wealthy man, ignoring her love for her cousin. He also neglects his son Hamid, whose mental health is crumbling. In the film’s final third, Haji drifts into a fantastical vision of Hell, observing elaborate, Méliès‑style tortures—including a bizarre tableau featuring Hitler—highlighting the movie’s striking set pieces.
