A Nail Clipper Romance

Sean tries to cope with his breakup by going surfing, but the outing ends with him drowning and being rushed to the hospital. The frightening accident leaves him in recovery and unsettles his friends who worry about his welfare.

Sean's friends mistakenly think he attempted suicide and want to cheer him up. They take him to a party at a bar, hoping to brighten his mood and give him a distraction from his pain.

At the bar, a group of girls approaches and one Chinese-speaking girl licks Sean's face before vanishing. The brief, peculiar gesture leaves him puzzled and curious about her identity.

The next day, Sean delivers a surfboard to a local store and unexpectedly meets Emily again. She explains she was drunk and lost a game that required licking a stranger as punishment, which is how their strange bond begins.

They chat and start to bond, sharing stories and finding common ground. Emily decides to join Sean in graffitiing on the street, a playful activity that deepens their budding relationship.

Sean invites Emily to dinner, but she insists she is on a diet and refuses to eat. He then shows her his deceased father's vintage car, a relic he is reluctant to sell.

As their relationship develops, Emily begins staying at Sean's place, moving from casual meetings to closer days together.

One day, Sean finds a bitten nail clipper in the bathroom; Emily panics, discards it, and makes an excuse to leave, revealing a secret she has tried to hide.

Emily confesses that she is a 'nail clipper monster', a creature that looks human but feeds on nail clippers. Sean is initially skeptical, but she offers an elaborate explanation about her race and its origins.

Sean tells his friends what he learned, and they mostly doubt the wild tale. Sean alone starts considering the possibility that Emily might be telling the truth.

They buy a shop and renovate it into a nail clipper-themed cafe, choosing to skip a kitchen and adorn a large wall with nail clipper decorations. The venture quickly fails to draw customers, foreshadowing trouble.

An investigator is hired by Sean's friends and uncovers more about Emily, including aspects of her origin that complicate the initial story. The truth challenges Sean's trust and deepens the sense that there is more to Emily than he was told.

Six months later, Sean returns to attend his best friend's wedding and contemplates developing a relationship with a longtime admirer. Meanwhile, Emily receives a parcel containing nail clippers and is seen on a roof happily munching on clippers, suggesting their paths may cross again despite the distance between them.
