Gilles Lantier, a young AFP reporter, suffers a nervous breakdown. Unable to rely on his friend Jean or girlfriend Eloïse, he retreats to his sister Odile’s home near Limoges. At a party he meets affluent Nathalie Sylvener, falls instantly in love, and tells Eloïse he’s devoted to Nathalie. They move to Paris, but she refuses marriage. Their initial passion fades into routine, and eventually Nathalie vanishes, leaving Gilles to confront his emptiness.
