Mr. and Mrs. Gilton are affluent, living next to the Biltons, a large family that struggles financially. Although the Giltons want to be friendly, Mr. Gilton is constantly irritated, keeping the Biltons out of his yard and blaming them for any mishap. As the holiday season arrives, the contrast between the households sharpens, prompting Mrs. Gilton to try to help the Biltons, while her husband remains reluctant and will need a great deal of convincing.
