After her mother dies, Ruth must earn a living as a seamstress. When she brings shirts to the factory owner, his son steals money and frames her for the theft. Accused and desperate, Ruth escapes the cramped Lower East Side ghetto of New York, hides in the countryside, and encounters a kind young farmer who offers her a chance at a new beginning.
