Seamstress Mary longs to escape the sweatshop, and her hopes seem realized when the wealthy Victor takes notice. Bored with Victor, she drains his fortune, and when he proposes a modest life beyond the city, she abandons him for a new lover. A year later Victor lives in a cold, shabby hut, still yearning for Mary.
