Major Palgrave, an eccentric mystery writer, tells Miss Jane Marple that a guest at their Caribbean resort is a Bluebeard‑type wife killer. Before naming the murderer, Palgrave dies from an overdose of alcohol and blood‑pressure medication. When the drugs are linked to another guest and his crucial photograph disappears, Marple realizes the killer is still at large and more murders will follow.
