A journalist from the series Murder in the Dark is jolted by two tragedies: his close friend Kurt is murdered, and his editor orders him to investigate a provincial case. In the brothel “Paradise,” a prostitute has been slain and a seemingly deranged knife attacker is detained. Suspicious details and the allure of the suspect’s striking defense attorney draw the reporter into a deeper conspiracy that pulls back the city’s polished façade.
