During the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong starting December 25, 1941, pawnshop owner Luo Kai tries to protect his three daughters—eldest Wangdi, second Xindi, and youngest Aidi. After Kowloon falls, Aidi is brutally tortured and suffers a mental disorder. Xindi helps her lover Shen Fang rescue the wounded in a temporary hospital. To curry favor, Luo sacrifices Wangdi, then, as a traitor, watches Xindi drawn to a Japanese officer. Overwhelmed, Luo can no longer stop the family’s tragedies as chaos erupts.
