Swedish painter Anders Zorn, famed for his nudes, is commissioned to paint the king. Zorn, a heavy‑drinking womanizer, cheats on his wife despite his acclaim. During a U.S. tour he begins an affair with Emilie Bartlett, wife of sculptor Paul. After Paul's suicide, Zorn and Emilie return to Sweden, where he flaunts his love for her, ignoring his wife.
