Zina, the daughter of Leon Trotsky by his first wife, undergoes Freudian analysis in 1930s Berlin while her father lives in exile on the Turkish island of Prinkipo after being ousted by Stalin. As the Nazis ascend in Germany and Austria, Zina ultimately takes her own life.
